The Red Sox moved Rafael Devers off the hot corner during spring training, and they’re not going back.

Red Sox manager Alex Cora was pressed on the topic Wednesday ahead of Boston’s series finale against the Milwaukee Brewers. Despite Alex Bregman having landed on the injured list with a severe right quad strain, Cora doubled down and stated Devers playing third base is not something the organization is considering — or will consider.

“No, not at third base. No,” Cora told reporters, as seen on NESN. “We keep talking about the other position (first base), but as of now, it’s not happening.”

Faced with another question about Devers, Cora responded: “Third base — he’s not going to play third base. … The third base part of it is a no.”

The decision to keep Devers as Boston’s designated hitter comes with the slugger having adjusted to the new role. Devers has hit .366 with a 1.118 OPS during May.

Cora did hint that Kristian Campbell could see live reps at first base when the Red Sox head to the Atlanta Braves this week. Campbell, who’s played the majority of his innings at second base this season, recently started getting reps at first after the season-ending injury to Triston Casas.
