The Red Sox will take good news any way they can get it right now, and Alex Bregman might be a rare source of good fortune.
The sputtering Sox will try to avoid a sweep at the hands of the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday, and for the 12th straight game, they’ll have to do so without Bregman. The star third baseman has been on the injured list since May 24 with a hamstring injury, one originally thought to be rather serious.
The good news? Bregman’s rehab is progressing quite well. He told The Boston Globe that he’s recovering at “warp speed,” which should be music to Boston’s ears given the recent struggles.
“Obviously, got to respect the injury, but it’s been healing extremely fast, and just got to keep making strides every day and hopefully be back sooner than later,” he told the Globe earlier this week.
Bregman acknowledged he’s been able to reflect on lessons he learned after suffering the same exact injury in 2021. He missed 10 weeks with that hamstring issue, and he obviously hopes it doesn’t take as long this year.

“We’re doing a bunch of stuff every day. We’re doing treatment eight to 10 hours a day. It’s going really well,” he told the Globe.
The Red Sox enter play Wednesday five games under .500 and are in real danger of seeing their season fall apart. That probably won’t impact Bregman’s eagerness to return, though. He signed a three-year deal with the Red Sox, but he has an opt-out after the 2025 season. Returning this season and adding to a tremendous start of the campaign — Bregman is already a three-win player this year — could set him up for another massive payday this winter.
